Personal fitness segment shows strong growth
According to a new study by the
International Dance and Exercise Association, personal fitness training
continues to be the largest growth segment of the fitness industry, with
many established trainers reporting an increase in their business of over
100% last year.
Chris McNeil, founder and area program
director for Faster Fitness Fitness Training Studios, says he has seen
tremendous growth in the field locally. “People are realizing that
achieving high levels of fitness is a science—and the guidance of a
professional can make a difference.”
McNeil says LifeStyle Dynamic’s downtown studio
signed up more than 200 clients in 2000, their first year of business. The
average percentage of growth between 1997 and 1998 was 116%, according to
IDEA’s TrendWatch. The average for the past five years was 523%.
